At your first appointment you will have a through consultation and examination to establish what your needs are.

This will involve:

A full medical history
Documenting of your medication (please bring a list)
A neurological and vascular assessment to deterimine if you may have any underlying issues before any course of treatment is recommended
A thorough examination of your individual problem

Diagnosis

The treatment plan that Hana offers depends on your individual needs. Discussing current medication, she thoroughly checks the blood supply to your feet whilst providing personalised and thorough care advice.

Fungal Nail Treatment

Your nails are a very important part of your body, so you need to make sure that you are taking proper care of them. When nail fungus strikes, it’s important to deal with it as soon as possible. Providing nail fungus treatment and removal options, Hana’s services ensure that your infection is treated properly.

THE RIGHT TREATMENT

Step 1: Diagnosis.
Where the diagnosis is in doubt we strongly recommend analysis of the nail to confirm the presence or otherwise of fungus. This is because studies have shown that even experts (dermatologists & podiatrists) at very best can only be around 67% accurate by visual diagnosis meaning they still get 1 in 3 diagnoses wrong. Clinical guidelines from NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) and published papers repeatedly state it is good practice to establish a formal diagnosis before treating.

Therefore at the Podiatry Clinic the patient has a choice of being tested within the clinic which takes about 5-10 minutes or going to their GP in which the results may take up to 6 weeks. Published studies has shown the test used within The Podiatry Clinic has 97% accuracy.

Once the diagnosis has been made we proceed to step 2.

Further Solutions

Surgical nail removal can be done for severe or returning fungal nail infections. The entire nail (avulsion) or only part of the nail (debridement) can be removed.

Lacuna Treatment

Fungal infections occur when microscopic fungi enter the nail, usually through trauma or microtrauma from footwear. The fungi thrive between the toes in the moist warm environment of socks and shoes, reproducing and spreading through the nail.

Fungal nail infections affect 8% of the population, with patients feeling embarrassed with the way they look. The Lacuna Fungal Nail Treatment involves drilling multiple holes across the fungal area of the nail. Depending on patient’s tolerance, as much of the nail is drilled as possible.

Lamisil is then sprayed across the nail plate, with the patient then applying this every day for 6 weeks until they return for a review.

Lamisil is an anti-fungal drug that is also known as terbinafine. Terbinafine works to create an imbalance in the fungal cell wall, causing death of the fungal cell, therefore this is known as a ‘Fungicidal’ drug. To ensure this treatment works, patients must apply the spray daily.

Medi-Pedi

Alongside Hana’s general podiatry services, she also provides complete nail, foot, and skin assessments. Medi-Pedi’s are a combination of a podiatric assessment, which detects and helps prevent potential problems, whilst giving your feet a well-deserved polish and pamper.

Pampered to Perfection

Sterile instruments are used throughout this clinical procedure to decrease the risk of contamination. It’s a medical pampering session that analyses the health of your foot and provides dedicated foot care. Your feet are soaked with water, nails are cut, and any dry skin is removed. After the procedure, you can relax with a proper foot scrub and a massage with a variety of oils.

Warm Wax Treatment

Paraffin wax therapy is a relatively new, hygienic yet therapeutic service which is available for a variety of conditions. This cost-effective treatment increases blood flow, pain tolerance, and skin hydration, whilst also relaxing the muscles in the affected area.

Therapeutic Solutions

Wax therapy moisturises and softens the skin, whilst providing healing to sore and aching joints. It is particularly beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and rheumatic pain. Warm wax is applied by brush from individual pods of wax, offering a relaxing experience.

Domiciliary Visits

Hana can treat you in the comfort of your own home. Circumstances often change as we age, and our mobility may not be as good as it used to be. Hana is an experienced podiatrist who can take the stress out of getting to the clinic, coming directly to you at a time that suits you best. This service is for patients who may have mobility problems, children who comply better with treatment in their own home, patients with orthopaedic injuries, and those who simply prefer the convenience of treatment at home.

Hana can provide assessments and treatments in your home, care home, and places of work. She will bring all of the required portable equipment with her to provide your assessment and treatment, all she asks for is a chair for you to sit on and she will bring the rest.

Care Homes

Hana happily provides services for patients living in nursing and care homes, administering treatment and care plans to patients who are unable to attend the clinic. For those living in care homes, access to travel can be an issue, and so receiving podiatry treatment in the comfort of their own surroundings is often beneficial.
